50th Annual General Meeting

The 50th Annual General Meeting of the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA) was held on 31st October 2025 at the OPA Auditorium, with the participation of key office bearers, Past Presidents, and members of the General Forum. During the meeting, President-Elect Mr. Jayantha Gallehewa was ceremonially sworn in as President for the 2025/2026 term.

In his address, outgoing President Mr. Sujeewa Lal Dahanayake expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity to lead the OPA during its Golden Jubilee year. Reflecting on the organisation's milestone celebrations, he recounted the success of the Golden Jubilee Ceremony graced by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the inauguration of the Dr. Nath Amarakone Memorial Oration, and the unveiling of the Golden Jubilee Monument and Commemorative Volume. Concluding his address, Mr. Dahanayake reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the OPA's mission and expressed heartfelt appreciation to all members and committees for their support and cooperation throughout his tenure.

Addressing the gathering, the newly appointed President, Mr. Jayantha Gallehewa, emphasized the importance of strengthening the voice and influence of professionals in national development, contributing to policy reform, and promoting good governance. Mr. Gallehewa announced his intention to collaborate with the Government of Sri Lanka to declare a National Day for Professionals, honoring their service to the nation. He also shared plans to organize an International Conference in partnership with OPA's member associations to bring global best practices to Sri Lanka while showcasing the country's professional excellence. Additionally, he underscored his commitment to transforming the OPA into a hub for continuous learning, leadership, and professional growth, with a particular focus on empowering youth and emerging professionals.

Presenting the Annual Report for 2024/2025 together with the Audited Financial Statements, General Secretary Mr. Tisara de Silva commended the dedication and tireless efforts of the office bearers and members in successfully executing the OPA's Golden Jubilee commemorative activities, along with numerous seminars, brainstorming sessions, and professional development initiatives. He highlighted the wide range of impactful programmes carried out during the year and urged members to continue their active engagement with the OPA to further the advancement of the professions and the progress of the nation.
