World Marketing Forum Nov 03, 2025

The World Marketing Forum (WMF), organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), was held on Wednesday, 12th November, at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. The President-Elect, Mr. Thisara De Silva, participated in the event representing the OPA. A large number of international delegates were also in attendance, making it a significant and well-represented gathering.

The Association of Retired Chiefs of Police organized a Sing-Along event on 23rd Nov. 2025, at the Grand Maitland in Colombo 07. The evening brought together retired senior police officers, their families, and invited guests for a memorable gathering filled with music, camaraderie, and fellowship. The event featured a lively selection of classic songs, creating an enjoyable atmosphere that encouraged everyone to participate.

Tax Talk Event January 6, 2026

The Tax talk event, a monthly event to discuss the critical and complex landscape of taxation, will be inaugurated on Tuesday, the 06th of January 2026, from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., with the premier topic for discussion being, 'The way forward after the abolition of the SVAT Scheme.'

The focus areas will include; VAT refunds within 45 days and the new tax invoice format. Key resource persons from the Inland Revenue Department and experts from the corporate sector will serve as resource persons.

Attendance is complimentary for CITSL members and students. A nominal fee of Rs. 1,500.00 will be charged from others.

February 06, 2026 Sri Lanka Economic Association holds its Annual International Conference at the BMICH

The Annual International Conference of the Sri Lanka Economic Association, a key event in the nation's economic calendar, was held on February 6, 2026, at the BMICH. The conference convened leading minds to discuss pressing economic issues under a central theme of national resilience and innovation. The event was honored by the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who attended as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address, sharing the government's policy roadmap and engaging with the country's top economic thinkers on pathways for future prosperity.

January 18, 2026 World Consumer Day 2026

In connection with World Consumer Day 2026, which takes place on 15th March, Mr. Sarath Wijesinghe, President’s Counsel, Solicitor in England and Wales, former Chairman Consumer Affairs Authority, former Ambassador to UAE and Israel, and President Ambassador’s Forum, argues that while every citizen is a lifelong consumer, they remain a weak and disorganized group, especially in Sri Lanka, where they are 'suppressed, neglected, and cheated' by powerful traders and a 'weak and inactive' Consumer Affairs Authority. He contrasts this with the powerful consumer movements in the West, which are supported by media and strong organizations. Using the 2026 theme of 'Product Safety and Satisfied Consumer,' he calls for a non-confrontational effort to educate and organize consumers, urging them to understand their rights and coexist with traders, while also demanding that the government strengthen its regulatory role to balance the power dynamic and protect citizens.
