Celebrating Unity: Sinhala & Tamil New Year 2026 at OPA
The Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebration 2026 was held on 26th April at the OPA premises, organized by the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA) through its Social Events & Outreach Programmes Committee, under the distinguished patronage of President Mr. Jayantha Gallehewa.
The occasion was graced by the President, President-Elect, office bearers, past presidents, members of the OPA, and their family members, whose presence added warmth and vibrancy to the celebration. The gathering came together in a spirit of unity and cultural reverence, actively engaging in traditional rituals and customary games that reflect the enduring heritage of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Under the distinguished leadership of Mr. Priyantha Sahabandu, Vice President and Chairman of the Social Events & Outreach Programmes Committee, and with the unwavering support of its dedicated members, the event was conducted in an atmosphere of seamless coordination, exemplifying the authentic celebration of cultural heritage.
The celebration was further strengthened by the invaluable support of the OPA Centre Director, Mr. D. N. Seneviratne, and the Centre staff, whose commitment ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
In a vibrant display of unity and tradition, the festivities not only honoured cultural customs but also fostered fellowship, goodwill, and togetherness among all participants, making the occasion both memorable and meaningful.
