Seminar on El Niño and Sri Lanka: Navigating Climate Risks, Strengthening Resilience and Securing the Future
OPA presented a seminar on “El Niño and Sri Lanka: Navigating Climate Risks, Strengthening Resilience and Securing the Future.” The event focused on understanding the impacts of climate variability on the country and exploring strategies to enhance resilience and ensure a sustainable future.
The seminar was organised by the National Issues Committee, jointly with the Seminars, Workshops & Programmes Committee of the OPA. It was held on 17th July 2026 at 6.00 p.m. at the Auditorium of the OPA.
The event featured a distinguished panel of speakers. Prof. Chandana Jayaratne, Head of the Department of Physics, shared his expertise, along with Prof. K. D. N. Weerasinghe, Emeritus Professor from the University of Ruhuna. They were joined by Mr. A. L. K. Wijemannage, Director General of Meteorology, Department of Meteorology. The session was moderated by Mr. Bhanu Wijayaratne, Chairman of the National Issues Committee and Vice President of the OPA.
The seminar provided expert insights, promoted resilience building, and encouraged a sustainable future. It was followed by dinner, offering participants an opportunity for networking and further discussion.
