Seminar on “Energy Crisis and Sustainable Solutions: The Sri Lankan Perspective”
The seminar titled “Energy Crisis and Sustainable Solutions: The Sri Lankan Perspective” was held as a professional event organized by the National Issues Committee jointly with the Seminars, Workshops and Programmes Committee of the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA). The event was hosted by the OPA, bringing together professionals and stakeholders to address one of the country’s most pressing national concerns.
The seminar took place on 13th May 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Auditorium of the OPA followed by dinner.
The primary objective of the seminar was to examine Sri Lanka’s ongoing energy crisis and explore sustainable and renewable energy solutions. The discussions focused on policy-level considerations, engineering perspectives, and system-level strategies. The event also served as a platform for experts to share practical insights and discuss future directions for ensuring energy security and sustainability in the country.
The seminar featured several distinguished speakers. Mr. Harsha Wickramasinghe, a Consultant in Sustainable Energy Engineering, shared his expertise on sustainable practices. Dr. Narendra De Silva, General Manager of the Lanka Electricity Company (LECO), provided insights from the power sector, while Eng. Buddika Samarasekara, Director of System Controls at the National System Control Centre, contributed with perspectives on system operations and control.
The event was graced by Mr. Jayantha Gallehewa, President of the OPA. Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Bhanu Wijayaratne, Chairman of the National Issues Committee and Vice President of the OPA. The session was moderated by Eng. Chamil Edirimuni, who facilitated the discussions among the speakers and participants.
