Meeting and Parliamentary Procedure with Special Reference to Robert's Rules

This was a professional development workshop organized by the OPA Law & Order and OPA Constitutional Amendments Committee. The theme of the event was "Meeting and Parliamentary Procedure with Special Reference to Robert's Rules," which indicated a focused training session on how to conduct formal meetings effectively and democratically.

The core of the workshop centered on Robert's Rules of Order, a widely recognized and respected manual of parliamentary procedure. This set of rules provided a comprehensive framework for running meetings, making decisions, and governing organizations. The primary goal was to equip participants with the skills to transform potentially chaotic or inefficient meetings into structured, fair, and productive sessions. Attendees learned how to properly propose motions, engage in orderly debate, conduct votes, and ensure that all members had an equal opportunity to participate, thereby ensuring that their organization's decisions were sound and legally sound.

The event was held on March 11, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the OPA Auditorium. The resource person was Mr Prashantha Lal de Alwis PC, The Principal, Sri Lanka Law College His involvement lent significant authority and prestige to the seminar, suggesting that the content was of a very high standard. The event was moderated by Dr. Sunil Abeyrathna, an Attorney-at-Law, the Chairman of the Law & Order and OPA Constitutional Amendments Committee, and the Vice President of OPA.

This workshop was ideally suited for professionals who held leadership or governance roles, such as members of corporate boards, committee chairs in professional associations, public sector officials, and leaders of non-profit or student organizations.
